Rose Bay in Sydney is the site of Australia's first International Airport. In the 1930's and 40's, the sea plane trip from Sydney to London took over 5 days. The last of the Catalina flying boats departed Rose Bay in 1977.

Sydney Seaplanes still operates a fleet of smaller modern seaplanes from modest facilities in Rose Bay on the site of the original flying boat base. Sydney Seaplanes operate daily express service seaplane flights to Newcastle, scenic flights over Sydney Harbour and to the Hunter Valley.

Crossley Architects were commissioned by Sydney Seaplanes to design a new base, offices and museum. With the rich history of flying boats at Rose Bay, the museum is an extremely important part of the facility. The upgrade of the existing moorings and pontoon works has been completed. Designs are due to proceed to necessary applications in 2009.
