The new Blue Planet aquarium will replace the existing Danish Aquarium built in 1937. Den Blå Planet is to be built on a spectacular coastal site outside Copenhagen. An international competition for the design of the aquarium was won by the 'Maelstrom' inspired entry prepared by architects 3XN of Copenhagen.
The Australian company Advanced Aquarium Technologies (AAT), has been contracted to provide all aquarium specialist design and construction services for the project, with Aquatic Environmental Systems (AES) and Crossley Architects providing the necessary design and documentation. These first stage of the works is in progress with Crossley Architects providing specialist architectural advice to the project architects 3XN with respect to aquarium design for visitor movement, aquarium viewing options, aquarium structure and life support integration.
The aquarium will feature warm and cold water exhibits.
The project is due for completion in 2013.
